Our website's new look

If you've visited the PVHA website at http://proto.pajarovalleyhistory.org recently, you'll probably have noticed things look a bit different. This article reveals the intentions and technology behind the new look.

The main goal of the new website is to work with the Newsletter to inform the community of the news of the PVHA. The home page prominently refers to informative announcements, events to come (and recently passed), fundraising efforts, and the status of various committees within the Association.

Other goals have led to the following sections of the website:
  • About PVHA - background information about what we are here to do, what we have to offer to the public, and how our organization is managed.
  • Join Us - acknowledgment of people who have made a difference to the PVHA, and an invitation to you to join in supporting us.
  • Pajaro Archives - catalogs of the information in our archives, along with articles documenting historically relevant people and collections.
  • Online Store - a catalog of the PVHA's products available for purchase.
  • Contact Us - how to visit or get in touch - or how to stay in touch with mailing lists.

The main website will now be hosted by Google Sites and various other web based tools. The main attractions of Google Sites for our purposes are:
  • enable more PVHA personnel to change/update the website
  • enhance internal searching of website and general availability of archive info
We acknowledge Google for their forward thinking policy of supporting non-profits with their free web hosting services.

Expansion Ideas

Here are some future website projects under consideration:
  • Connect prototype google site to pajarovalleyhistory.info / .com / .org
  • Improve mailing list integration with membership/volunteer lists
  • Improve logo and general page design
  • Document existing website maintenance procedures
  • Enhance archive collection catalogs
  • Document past exhibits (e.g. earthquake exhibit); establish guidelines for exhibit documentation (more extensive pictures and text)
  • Study PastPerfect Online / MWeb interface for archive catalog; consider PVHA IP e-commerce products
  • Review look and feel of online store; study improved integration
  • Study copyright and Creative Commons classifications and notifications
