"It's in the Bag" by Gerry Martin
The Pajaro Valley Historical Association is proud to feature a new exhibit showcasing its permanent collection of handbags. The featured items span 150 years of women’s fashion from the 1830’s to the 1980’s. The popularity of bags made from reptile skins can be seen in one of the long cases. Another interesting leather handbag hangs in that case. On careful inspection you can see the name “Mrs. Alvin Richardson, Watsonville, California”, embossed in gold letters on the inside. The collection also features many beaded bags from the late 1800’s to more modern days. Many of the older bags are identified as being from “Paris, France”, while many of the later bags are from Hong Kong. In a small case can be found some very unusual items such as the bracelet purse and the finger ring purse. In addition you can be dazzled by sparkling dresses, hats and shoes.
